Dr Archie Spears

Dr Speirs undertook Interventional Radiology fellowships Guys & St Thomas’s and Imperial Hospitals where he trained under some of the pioneers of fibroid embolisation. In 2010 he was appointed Consultant at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and since then has led the fibroid embolisation service having competed over 300 procedures.

During this period the pre and post procedure care has been completely revamped first with the introduction of a fentanyl PCA to manage pain after the procedure then with adoption of intranuterine artery lidocaine further augmenting the pain relief.

Professor Little and Dr Briggs have also joined the team and are also highly experienced in fibroid embolisation. They launched radial access fibroid embolisation service in 2019 which is preferred by some patients and allows early mobilisation after the procedure. Our team completed one of the UKs first daycase fibroid embolisations in 2019.

Results of our practice have recently been presented at the Society of Interventional Radiology an international conference based in the United States and published in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
